ABOUT

SYSO Summer Music provides a fun summer learning experience for young musicians. Our camps are perfect for musicians looking to play in an orchestra for the first time, as well as intermediate level students wanting a challenge. Our camps will keep students motived and excited about music of the summer, and will build musical skills and confidence through performing in ability-based chamber groups, string orchestra/wind ensembles and a full orchestra. The camps conclude with student concerts for the entire family. SYSO Summer Music students work with Seattle’s finest music educators, learn new repertoire, improve technique on their instrument and make friends!

Placement Audition Videos are used to place students into the best ensemble based on their ability. We want your musician to be challenged, but also feel comfortable– they will be placed with students at a similar playing ability and age. Our conductors select the best repertoire for their ability and our top-notch music faculty and interns will also be working with your students every step of the way!

After registering, you should have received an email with SYSO Summer Music: Submit your placement video in the subject line to insert your audition video link. Please refer to that email when you’re ready to submit. If you searched your inbox and spam folders and can’t find the email, please contact info@syso.org.

GUIDELINES

Your video should not exceed 3 minutes in length, and should include your musician performing:

Strings, Winds, & Brass:
1) a musical selection of their choice
2) a major and minor scale of their choice
** students can play a 1- to 3-octave scale of their choice. They should prepare what will give us the most accurate representation of their playing.

Percussion:
1) 1 snare solo
2) 1 mallet solo. If you haven’t played mallets, feel free to submit a second recording of a non snare part (this could be a recording of an ensemble)

If you have more questions please email Amy Stevenson
