The SYSO Scholarship Chamber Ensemble Program provides chamber music coaching, performance opportunities and professional development for talent student chamber music ensembles.

Scholarship Chamber Ensembles serve as ambassadors for the Seattle Youth Symphony programs by performing public concerts and recitals for community service groups, arts organization functions and educational outreach programs. In addition, Scholarship Chamber Ensembles are recommended for professional concert engagement inquiries (such as weddings, parties and ceremonies) that originate through the SYSO office. The ambassadorship role the ensembles play includes concerts and presentations at Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions Club and other community service organization meetings.

Ensembles are chosen in November by competitive audition. Students participating in the program self-select the members of their ensembles themselves, and rehearse with their groups outside of the regularly scheduled SYSO rehearsal times.

In addition to community outreach concerts, Scholarship Camber Ensembles perform annually in Benaroya Hall's Nordstrom Recital Hall each spring. Ensembles also produce a professional quality demo CD recording that is distributed to local businesses, non-profit groups and community agencies. The goal is to stimulate interest and awareness of the program, and to generate performance opportunities for these exceptionally talented young ensembles.

Our staff has created an informative and engaging presentation that not only highlights the mission, history and future of SYSO, but also includes performances by some of the Pacific Northwest's most talented young musicians.
